A Branch-and-Cut Algorithm for the Dial-a-Ride Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
In the dial-a-ride problem, users formulate requests for transportation from a specific origin to a specific destination. Transportation is carried out by vehicles providing a shared service. The problem consists of designing a set of minimum cost vehicle routes satisfying capacity, duration, time window, pairing, precedence and ride time constraints. This paper introduces a mixed-integer programming formulation of the problem and a branch-and-cut algorithm. The algorithm uses new valid inequalities for the dial-a-ride problem as well as known valid inequalities for the pickup and delivery and the vehicle routing problems. Computational experiments performed on randomly generated instances show that the proposed approach can be used to solve small to medium size instances. Subject classifications: Transportation: vehicle routing. Programming: cutting plane. Area of review: Transportation.

Solving the Pickup and Delivery Problem with Time Windows by Branch-and-Cut
In the Vehicle Routing Problem with Pickup and Delivery (VRPPD), a set of transportation requests must be satisfied by capacitated vehicles based at one or several depots. Each request is defined by an origin (or pickup point), a destination (or delivery point), and a demand to be transported from the origin to the destination. Typical applications are parcel services and dial-a-ride transporta...

The k-forest problem is a common generalization of both the k-MST and the dense-k-subgraph problems. Formally, given a metric space on n vertices V , with m demand pairs ⊆ V × V and a “target” k ≤ m, the goal is to find a minimum cost subgraph that connects at least k demand pairs. In this paper, we give an O(min{√n, √ k})-approximation algorithm for k-forest, improving on the previous best rat...
متن کاملModels and branch-and-cut algorithms for pickup and delivery problems with time windows
In the pickup and delivery problem with time windows (PDPTW), capacitated vehicles must be routed to satisfy a set of transportation requests between given origins and destinations. In addition to capacity and time window constraints, vehicle routes must also satisfy pairing and precedence constraints on pickups and deliveries. This paper introduces two new formulations for the PDPTW and the cl...
متن کاملOnline multi-server dial-a-ride problems
In an online dial-a-ride problem, a crew of servers has to process transportation requests as they arrive in real time. Possible objective functions include minimizing the makespan and minimizing the sum of completion times. We give competitive algorithms and negative results for several online dial-a-ride problems with multiple servers. Surprisingly, in some cases the competitive ratio is dram...
متن کاملProbabilistic Competitive Analysis of a Dial-a-Ride Problem on Trees under High Load
In this paper we consider a simple variant of the Online Dial-a-Ride Problem from a probabilistic point of view. To this end, we look at a probabilistic version of this online Dial-a-Ride problem and introduce a probabilistic notion of the competitive ratio which states that an algorithm performs well on the vast majority of the instances. Our main result is that under the assumption of high lo...
